BLUE STAR 35010

CYLINDER APPEAL

Blue Star at Colne Valley appealing for help to raise £15,000

The "British Enginemen Steam Preservation Society" (BESPS) are appealing for help to raise £15,000 (estimated cost) for the repair of the damaged right hand cylinder of 35010 Merchant Navy Class "BLUE STAR". The cylinder was broken in service during BR days that was instrumental in sending 35010 to the breakers yard. The cause of the problem has been well documented in various railway books & magazines etc:
The society is a registered charity and are also custodians of Stanier Black Five 45293, currently undergoing very heavy restoration at the "Colne Valley Railway" Essex where both locomotives are based.
We are making this appeal to enable us to kick-start the restoration programme of 35010 without diverting funds or labour away from the progress of 45293, as this cylinder repair would be undertaken by a specialist company off site and will be a fairly lengthy process. Even so, our totally volunteer labour force will have to remove the cylinder from the frames for shipment to the contractors.
We very much welcome all prospective new members to this exciting project either by physically helping or just financially supporting us. (All donations should be sent to: - "The Treasurer 35010” BESPS, 22 Kings Way Harrow Middlesex HA1 1XU (cheques made payable to BESPS).
